SC EMS Agencies—Important Information—Please Review

Congratulations - Agency Data Submission Pushes 90% Across South Carolina!

Over the past year, EMS Agencies, Software Developers, SC DHEC, and the EMSPIC have worked to accomplish one of the most substantial State EMS Data Systems in the nation. This achievement is no small victory, as the current incoming events represent over 98% of the population in South Carolina!

The implementation of this system formed a ground-breaking level of participation, data collection, and data quality - swiftly placing South Carolina among the top nationally submitting EMS data systems in the country.

Thank you for all of your hard work, patience, and dedication!

You may now begin to refine the quality of data being collected and use this information to your advantage. Agency Reports and Toolkits utilize the collected data to provide you with information for evaluation and improvement.

Remember, the success of any data system depends on how the information is used.

For a detailed list of available reports, and instructions on how to use them, please select Reports on the left-side menu.

In addition, all South Carolina EMT-Paramedics still have access to Tim Phalen's new Online 12 Lead ECG Interpretation Course. The free course is available until October 2010.

Make sure to take advantage of this offer by selecting EMS Education Resources on the left-side menu.

Please visit this site often for new information on Reports, Toolkits, and upcoming Regionally Based Webinars.

While you are on this site, be sure to check out the visual success of South Carolina's EMS Data System on the Interactive SC Data Rollout Map!

North Carolina EMS Data System Published in National Peer Reviewed Journal

The January 2010 edition of Prehospital Emergency Care highlights the North Carolina EMS Data System. The article highlights the successful development of a fully integrated, statewide EMS data system for quality improvement of EMS service delivery and patient care in North Carolina. The article also provides a platform for linking EMS with emergency physicians, other health care providers, and public health agencies responsible for planning, disease surveillance, and disaster preparedness. The North Carolina EMS Data System applications include the Prehospital Medical Information System (PreMIS), the Credentialing Information System (CIS), the State Medical Asset Resource Tracking Tool (SMARTT), and the EMS Performance Improvement Toolkits. The system provides a quality and performance improvement program consistent with the idealized EMS design described in the EMS Agenda for the Future. The program has already achieved significant improvements in the quality of EMS service delivery, patient care, and integrated systems of care.

All SC EMS Providers - Helpful Info on SC DHEC and SC IDs

  1. If your EMS Agency is currently using the SC DHEC Paper form, continue to use the current ID you possess. As you recertify with DHEC you will receive an SC ID with an "SC" followed by 6 numbers. If you receive this, you should use this number on the paper DHEC form when you complete it. If you have not received this number continue to use your current State ID as you always have.
  2. If your EMS Agency is currently using the PreMIS Web Application or sending data into the SC EMS Data System via PreMIS using a commercial EMS software, you already have your SC IDs with the "SC" followed by 6 numbers. You should not change anything.
  3. If your EMS Agency is using a commercial software package but has not begun sending data into the SC EMS Data System, your software is currently configured using your existing SC IDs. Please continue to use these old IDs until you have been enrolled in the SC EMS Data System and are provided the new SC IDs for all of your personnel and staff. If you have new personnel who begin working with you, you should add their SC ID number to your software just as you have been adding the old numbers. If your software will not allow this, please contact the EMSPIC at 919-843-0201 and we will help you work through any issues.
