A message from SC DHEC – Division of EMS and Trauma:

Exciting new changes are happening to the way we do business! We are pleased to announce that on July 1, 2010, we will begin using our online Credentialing Information System (CIS) to register and track all initial and refresher courses for the State. During the month of June, we will host 5 training sessions across the State to provide further instructions and details of this new system. Attendance at one of these training sessions is mandatory for all Program Coordinators. Additional key staff who help coordinate course information or instructors are welcome to attend, however space is limited so we ask that only 2 additional members attend this training from your institution.

Please make arrangements to attend one of the following mandatory sessions:

  • Tuesday, June 15th at 2:00pm - Midlands EMS (West Columbia)
  • Tuesday, June 22nd at 2:00pm - Upstate EMS (Greenville)
  • Wednesday, June 23rd at 10:00am - DHEC EMS (Columbia)
  • Wednesday, June 23rd at 1:30pm - DHEC EMS (Columbia)
  • Thursday, June 24th at 10:00am - Pee Dee EMS (Florence)
  • Wednesday, June 30th at 1:30pm - Lowcountry EMS (Charleston)

Please register by sending an e-mail to both Jennifer Paddock (paddocjl@dhec.sc.gov) and Don Whiteley (whiteldl@dhec.sc.gov)
Be sure to indicate the date and location you prefer to attend. Directions to each location will be provided upon registration.

In the meantime, DHEC would like to ask all Program Coordinators to please create a profile in CIS if they do not currently have one. The profile will ensure all Program Coordinators are configured properly in CIS prior to the training session. Note: Individuals who have an EMT certification should already have a profile in CIS. Please do not create a duplicate profile.

The following link will explain how to search and create a profile in CIS:

Should you have further questions, please contact Don Whiteley at 803-545-4269 or via e-mail whiteldl@dhec.sc.gov

North Carolina EMS Data System Published in National Peer Reviewed Journal

The January 2010 edition of Prehospital Emergency Care highlights the North Carolina EMS Data System. The article highlights the successful development of a fully integrated, statewide EMS data system for quality improvement of EMS service delivery and patient care in North Carolina. The article also provides a platform for linking EMS with emergency physicians, other health care providers, and public health agencies responsible for planning, disease surveillance, and disaster preparedness. The North Carolina EMS Data System applications include the Prehospital Medical Information System (PreMIS), the Credentialing Information System (CIS), the State Medical Asset Resource Tracking Tool (SMARTT), and the EMS Performance Improvement Toolkits. The system provides a quality and performance improvement program consistent with the idealized EMS design described in the EMS Agenda for the Future. The program has already achieved significant improvements in the quality of EMS service delivery, patient care, and integrated systems of care.

All SC EMS Providers - Helpful Info on SC DHEC and SC IDs

  1. If your EMS Agency is currently using the SC DHEC Paper form, continue to use the current ID you possess. As you recertify with DHEC you will receive an SC ID with an "SC" followed by 6 numbers. If you receive this, you should use this number on the paper DHEC form when you complete it. If you have not received this number continue to use your current State ID as you always have.
  2. If your EMS Agency is currently using the PreMIS Web Application or sending data into the SC EMS Data System via PreMIS using a commercial EMS software, you already have your SC IDs with the "SC" followed by 6 numbers. You should not change anything.
  3. If your EMS Agency is using a commercial software package but has not begun sending data into the SC EMS Data System, your software is currently configured using your existing SC IDs. Please continue to use these old IDs until you have been enrolled in the SC EMS Data System and are provided the new SC IDs for all of your personnel and staff. If you have new personnel who begin working with you, you should add their SC ID number to your software just as you have been adding the old numbers. If your software will not allow this, please contact the EMSPIC at 919-843-0201 and we will help you work through any issues.
